SHINJUKU

Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho is one of the deepest drinking street in Tokyo as the name comes from 'old days'. A maze of narrow alleys close to the West Exit of Shinjuku Station, stands in contrast to all the bright and clean modern environs of the station. Over 70 restaurants stand in the 80meter street. Tiny restaurants and open barbecue food stalls spill their smoke, noise and steam over the nallow alleys .

The buildings are old and mostly run down, the food stalls very traditional, the visiting crowd multilingual. At dinner time, when it gets most crowded here, tired Tokyo office workers enjoy beers and a few sticks of yakitori chicken at the food stalls, sitting next to tourists.

Similar type of streets exists in Shibuya, which are called 'Nonbe-Yokocho' and 'Niku-Yokocho'. If you enjoy the place in Shinjuku, should go there as well.

Recommend to try several stalls, as all the stalls are tiny, you can be friends with locals.

Don't forget to arrive before the busy time!
