KIYOMIZU TEMPLE

Kiyomizu Temple is one of the most celebrated temples in Japan located on the hill east of Kyoto. It was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Kiyomizudera is best known for its wooden stage that juts out from its main hall, 13 meters above the hillside below. The stage affords visitors a nice view of the numerous trees below that explode the city of Kyoto in the distance.


Apart from the temple, the streets around here called Higashiyama district remains ancient atmosphere. It is a great place to experience traditional old Kyoto, with wooden buildings and traditional merchant shops.


NOTICE: Kiyomizu temple's main hall is covered up from February 2017 to March 2020 for the renovation of its roof. Visitors will be able to enter the main hall during the renovations.
